Wake Forest University Program

Students can jump-start their college preparation by learning from Wake Forest University Professors on our campus or online. Course space is limited, so students enjoy the opportunity to work closely with Wake Forest University Professors.

Wake Forest University offers program options in collaboration with Tsinglan School:

  • Academic writing course designed as an introduction to collegiate writing.
  • Academic inquiry course designed to develop students’ inquiry writing skills and instruct students on how to answer college-level research questions.
  • Content course(s) taught by Wake Forest University professors from different academic disciplines so that students experience introductions and in-depth learning.

Summer 2023 Course Descriptions

Academic Writing
In this course, students will be exposed to the expectations of university-level academic writing, focusing on the use of English in academic contexts. The Wake Forest University professor will guide students’ improvement in their knowledge of English and academic writing in the areas where non-native speakers and writers typically struggle. Past course instructors include:

Academic Inquiry and Social Sciences Research Overview
This course is designed to develop students’ abilities to develop and answer research questions in any academic discipline. Students will enhance their skills in designing a specific research question, locating and summarizing relevant academic source material, and crafting an answer to the research question through interaction with sources. Course instruction includes whole class, small group, and 1-to-1 interaction with the instructor. Past Instructors include:

  • Dr. Nelson Brunsting, Research Associate Professor, Contemporary Global Studies; Executive Director, RAISE Center

Self and Identity in Developmental Psychology Research
Acquiring a sense of self or identity is an important developmental task. In this course, you will learn about theoretical and contemporary perspectives on self/identity development and read research on how we learn and feel about ourselves. Sociocultural, contextual, and cross-national nuances will be examined with an eye towards exploring who you are.

In addition Wake Forest University instructors, students benefit from joint department collaboration. These collaborations were put in place to provide additional programmatic support and instruction to ensure students receive the best preparation for research skills and academic writing at U.S. Universities.
