International Friendship Family Program
Wake Forest University Center for International Studies
Friendships are an important part of your school experience in the United States. If you are an international freshman, sophomore or transfer student, you are eligible to participate in the Friendship Family program, which will provide you with the opportunity to develop lasting, enjoyable friendships with American families in the Winston-Salem area.
When you complete and return the application below, we will do our best to match you with a family who has some of the same interests and/or hobbies as you. This friendship family knows your first priority is school and will get together with you for meals or activities at times that are convenient for you.
Some friendship families meet about once a month, others more or less often, depending on your time and interest. The program is generally a 6-7 month commitment during the academic year, but families and students are encouraged to stay in touch beyond the confines of the school year. And, of course, you are welcome to continue being a Friendship Family beyond your sophomore year as long as everyone is in agreement.
You and your friendship family may go shopping, share a meal, attend a movie, or go sightseeing. They will help acquaint you with this area and American culture in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
