Questions to Consider when Planning Your Program
There are many steps and items to consider when developing a new study abroad program. We recommend that you start your planning and research 16-24 months in advance of the proposed program launch. Below are some questions that are important to consider before completing a new program proposal.
- What is the nature and purpose of your program?
- Does the program’s location tie in directly to the content of the course?
- If not, what is the rationale for having it in your chosen location?
- Are there any other programs currently running in this location?
- Are there any other programs already offered through your department that would be similar and compete for students?
- Who are your target student participants? Will your program be able to draw students from other disciplines?
- What is your ideal number of students? (In general the minimum is 8).
- What measures are in place or will be taken to ensure student health and safety?
- Will you be planning all of the logistics of the program, or will you use a company in-country to handle travel, room and board?
