Global Connections is a three-part yearlong academic program designed to enhance first-year undergraduate international students’ written and oral communication skills, self-awareness, and connection with campus leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
Global Connections students will engage deeply in academics and campus life, feel confident sharing their unique global perspective, and have the opportunity to make a positive impact on their campus community by identifying leadership paths in campus organizations.
One academic program, three courses
Global Connections students will complete a summer course, a fall course, and a spring workshop. Students will apply to participate in Connect@Wake. Students who complete Connect@Wake will be invited to participate in the fall and spring courses and programs.
Connect@Wake: A week-long one-credit course for new international students that provides an introduction Wake Forest University structure and leadership as well as connections to current faculty, staff, and students who lead campus organizations, events, and programs.
Engage@Wake: Engage@Wake students will take a three-credit First Year Seminar with Dr. Jon Smart, an international writing specialist, and have additional opportunities to engage with student leaders and explore student organizations as well as campus life offices. This FYS 100 course fulfills the FYS requirement for the undergraduate core curriculum.
Lead@Wake: In the spring semester, students will take a First Year Writing course with Dr. Jon Smart, an international writing specialist. This WRI 111 course fulfills the first-year writing requirement for the undergraduate core curriculum.
Additionally in the spring, Global Connections offers standalone workshops by campus leaders on topics like leadership, internships, public speaking, and undergraduate research.
